WHY IS IMMUNISATION IMPORTANT?
Immunization is an easy and powerful method of providing protection from infectious and serious diseases. It provides immunity to the individual receiving the vaccine, but also protects your family and the community by reducing the spread of infection if more than 95% of the individuals in a community are immunized. It helps protect the future generation by eradicating the diseases.
HOW DOES THE VACCINE WORK?
Vaccine triggers the immune system, such that when a vaccinated person comes in contact with the respective infectious agent, their immune system fights back with the disease causing agent in a more vigorous manner. So either the disease is prevented or its intensity is reduced.
HOW SAFE IS IT TO GET VACCINATED?
The complications of many diseases are far more severe as compared to the minimal side effects by the vaccines. To offer the best protection it is important to vaccinate the child according to the National immunization schedule rather than avoiding, delaying or splitting the doses.
Like all medications, vaccines may have minimal side effects such as pain and soreness at the site of injection, mild fever. But these are short lived and a slight reaction actually guarantees that the vaccination is working in the body. Serious side effects such as allergic reactions are very rare nowadays.
RECORD KEEPING
Nowadays it is important to keep a record of all the vaccines an individual receives because the proof of vaccination may be needed at places such as the time of enrolment in child daycare and schools or some countries may require your vaccination records at the time of immigration.
